Descriptions of Leadership Council from Retreat
(Work in Progress)
Evangelism Committee
The Evangelism committee will be putting a greater focus on name tags by moving them to a portable board system that can be pulled into the Narthex each Sunday. We will also be implementing a new professional directory that can guide new members to the professional services that one needs in their day to day life. We plan to visit four other churches this year that have amazing outreach programs and pick their brains on how they got them started. We will also be breathing life back into our first time visitor program as well as third time visitors and new members. We plan to develop a new member kit that includes a professional directory as well as information on the ministry opportunities that are available.
The Long Range Planning Committee
January 19, 2008
The Long Range Planning Committee is looking at four phases of “Expansion and Growth”. Phase One deals with our immediate needs. There are three steps in Phase One: a water retention plan to cover current and future growth plans; the addition of a large room added to the northern side (children’s wing) which can be used for two classrooms or one large meeting area; and temporary parking for 20 to 25 cars on the southern side of the building.
Phase Two envisions a two story building, with an elevator, housing a minimum of 8 classrooms and with access to storage space to be added to the southern side of the building. It will probably be connected to the main building by a breezeway.
Phase Three calls for the purchase of additional property as available which would lead into Phase Four which is the construction of a large multipurpose building dedicated to Youth and Young Adults. Possibilities for this building include a gymnasium/recreational area, additional classrooms and meeting rooms, and facilities to provide subsidized childcare to meet the needs of the community.
FHUMC Finance Committee
The Finance Committee’s basic function is to provide financial direction for FHUMC.

- Arranging the annual FHUMC’s audit of financial records.
- Recommending an annual budget to support FHUMC’s mission and ministry.

- Implement a Purchase Order System
- Develop Deferred Building Maintenance plans
- Develop financial plans to support Long Range Planning Committee projects
- Research Duke endowment application requirements for future building projects
- Develop a plan to reduce current building loan

- Prepare 2009 budget
- Communicate financial status/plans to all FHUMC members
Worship Committee
The purpose of the worship committee is to work with the pastor and music director to provide opportunities in worship that will advance and strengthen the development of the community’s relationship with God. Worship should help members of all ages remain faithful Christian disciples. We aim for worship to passionately remind us of Christ’s love, sacrifice, and resurrection.
For 2008 the worship committee is working with the trustees to provide kneeling benches and additional side tables for the Chancel area. We are working with the pastor and music director to provide additional and various types of music. Having audio and video recordings is being pursued by the outreach and worship committees. Monies are being raised for these ministries. Plans are being formulated for Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Christmas Eve services. Additionally the beach service will resume in May |
